History of Gull Isle Realty
Even though times have changed, the service will ALWAYS remain the same.
David Waller (Father)
Since 1964, the small building tucked on the Atlantic Beach Causeway has been helping home owners and renters find their perfect home – even before Gull Isle Realty took over. The site, notes David Waller, owner of Gull Isle, has always been a real estate agency, from the time it was constructed in 1964 until David purchased it in 1981. What started as a little 24 by 12 foot building was added on to twice, including the upstairs that David added.
It must be the perfect location – as the company’s website says, “It’s the first real estate company that you reach after crossing the Atlantic Beach Bridge and the last real estate company that you will ever need.”
Real estate agents provide a vital link for newcomers to the area and it’s a role that David takes very seriously, in addition to his appraisal service.
“You’re helping people with what will probably be the biggest purchase of their life,” he said. “We’re always aware of that. And it’s something we take into consideration every time we’re working with a client.”
Honesty, integrity and service are the cornerstones on which Gull Isle Realty is built. And for as long as they’re in business, this father and son team vow that it will continue to be their focus.
Derek Waller (Son)
Derek Waller got his start with Century 21 in Greensboro before returning home in 1994 to join his dad at the beach, where he spends his time overseeing the renal side of Gull Isle Realty and also being a REALTOR. With close to 200 rental properties spanning from Havelock to Beaufort and including commercial, multi-family and single family homes, there is certainly plenty to keep Derek and assistant Amanda busy.
“I really love what I do,” said the agent. “We have a small office and that provides for really personalized individual attention for everyone who walks through the door. We want to get to know our clients and we want to make sure we’re making good matches. Being in business such a long time makes that easier for us – we have a great knowledge of the area and the neighborhoods and we’ve built a lot of strong relationships through the years.”
The father of three said he doesn’t see a down side to real estate, even when the market dipped, he said the company’s focus remained the same – to provide the absolute best customer service possible to it’s clients.
